E120 Ben: Very wise and very fast

Ben is a remarkable young person as both an athlete and a coach, and a pleasure to speak with.

He represented Australia as a junior at the World Mountain Running Championships and immediately wanted more. He made a very rapid step up in distance after that, running his first ultramarathon when he was 19, and just a few years later he won a bronze medal in the Skyrunning World Championships in the Ultramarathon.

Jessica grew up with a severely mentally ill mother. Her story is gut wrenching, and yet here is another guest who came out stronger. Her most recent accomplishments include a 2nd and 3rd female in the Quarantine Backyard Ultras.

She explained it best in her bio, relating to other guests with childhood trauma, "the theme is still childhood (and some adulthood) trauma, and though the details are somewhat different, the arc is again that those experiences evolved from post-traumatic stress to post-traumatic growth, and ultimately a self-efficacy I wouldn't have without climbing out of adversity".

Tara is a Vancouver based runner with a love for bacon, beer, and the occasional mountain run in a banana or taco costume. She’s run 40 ultra-races including the classics like UTMB and Fat Dog, and she’s earned a spot on the podium at many races across the Pacific Northwest. More than races, Tara’s main reason for trail running is for the adventure and exploring beautiful mountains. She has completed longer self-supported adventure runs, and has set some female fastest known times on some of the most rugged routes around the Coast Mountains with her friend Alicia.
