When Gretchen was in her early 30's she was all settled. She was married with a condo, had a solid career, and loving road races. Everything looked great until she was stopped in her tracks by an autoimmune disease that depletes the bodies platelets. A year later, her husband left her. After a few hard years she found the trails and knew it was the place for her. She now has multiple 100 mile finishes including 4th female at Teanaway Country 100, and has recently started her own business Walla Trails, where she offers training camps and events for trail runners.

Charlotte suffered sexual abuse as a child and began to self medicate. She developed an eating disorder, while also smoking and drinking quite heavily. In 2012 her mom died and her husband left her. She struggled for few years abusing booze and food, until finally moving in with her dad in 2014. She felt like a complete failure. Then one day, her Dad invited her on a walk, and she realized how much better she felt afterwards. She began walking and going to the gym, and soon began running. She's now run 9 fulls, over 20 halfs, and has been sober since June 2017.

E73 Anne-Marie: Train hard, live happy

Anne-Marie Madden is a Vancouver based trail and road runner. She trains as hard as she works, and the proof is in the races. She recently came 2nd at the Northface 50 Mile Championship and 1st place at the Squamish 23km. In 2018 when the Northface Championship was cancelled she was able to shift gears last minute and run an Olympic qualifying time for a road marathon at 2:42:18. She finds that being outside keeps her happy and helps balance the more hectic and stressful aspects of work life. She is humble, down to earth, and offers great advice that everyone from experts to beginners can benefit from.

E72 Lizzie: When running will kill you

Lizzie found running in her mid 20's and quickly fell in love. It became a huge part of her life as she began winning races and spending her weekends adventuring. She even met her now husband when they shared the podium together at a 50km. In May 2019 her life changed. She was diagnosed with a rare heart condition called AVRC. It's genetic condition that effects the muscle in your heart and makes it turn into scar tissue the harder you work the muscle. This is the main cause of the stories you hear when people drop head during races and marathons. Lizzie shares her story of how she is dealing with crazy diagnosis and accepting that she won't ever run again.
